The UK Association of Letting Agents is appealing to letting agencies to take steps to ensure they are not accidentally complicit in modern day slavery. These include providing training and guidance to staff on the topic, and establishing a system of supply chain verification to ensure that contractors do not facilitate slavery, either actively or passively. Agents can call 0800 0121 700 or report suspicions online.

Training organisation Solvo Vir is inviting letting agents and landlords to attend free courses to bring them up to date with new Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard regulations. Under MEES, which come into effect on April 1, 2018, it will be unlawful to let or lease a residential or commercial property with a poor energy rating. Failure to comply means properties that do not meet the minimum standards cannot be re-let until improvements are made. If owners re-let, they could face a fine of £5,000.
